This week I catch up with my friend, artist, illustrator and now book author Lisa Congdon. I’m delighted to have her on the show to discuss her new book Art, Inc., The Essential Guide for Building Your Career as an Artist. Although written by Lisa, Art Inc., is part of a larger series edited by Meg Mateo Ilasco and developed with Chronicle Books.
The book is an incredible wealth of information, anecdotes, as well as chocked full of resources and real life pricing. If you’re an artist, or even a creative person looking to further your career with marketing and using social media to do so — this is a must have for your library. I can’t recommend it more, seriously.
On the podcast today we dive right into the book, chatting about how Lisa came to write it, how she mapped out the enormous amounts of information she shares, as well as the many people she interviewed to compliment the overall premise of the book. (Again, so much good stuff here!)
We cover quite a bit in our time together: soliciting people via email to “pick their brains” and our own feelings around it, using social media and marketing to further your career, and what an important, useful tool it is. My most favorite part of our talk is when we discuss ignoring the scarcity mind set that is so easily part of our headspace in today’s world of noisy social media. It’s something we all suffer from at some point and I truly love Lisa’s response to staying positive around those brain demons.
I think you’ll get a lot of our talk, and I sincerely hope you will walk away inspired to share your own voice. Enjoy!
